    The fuel facts

    In spring 2017 the government drafted a plan to improve air quality across the UK. It’s likely to start a shift in the way we think about petrol and diesel, or at least encourage operators to consider their options. So it’s a good time to get clear on the benefits of both.

    What does diesel do best?

    Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) drivers love diesel. Higher torque (pulling power) means they make light work of hard work, are great for towing and can do more miles per gallon, which makes them great for motorway and long-distance driving. Yet with the cost of diesel expected to rise, you’ll need to do more miles to realise the savings.

    Where does petrol make sense?

    New modern and efficient petrol LCVs shine on short distances. MPG is lower, yet petrol and initial purchase cost costs are cheaper, and their smooth drive and quick acceleration is ideal for A and B roads, and city streets. So for drivers who stay local, petrol makes more sense than ever. However, if – like other decision-makers – you’re looking for petrol LCVs that get the job done, you may have found yourself coming up short. Until now.
