#VansThatCan at work… and at home

Finding a van that can support your business is just part of the challenge. It’s equally as important that your van works for you when you’re not working.

At Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles we understand that striking the right work-life balance is crucial to running a successful business, with our range of award-winning vans versatile enough for the daily 9 to 5, the weekend getaways, and everything in between.

As part of our #VansThatCan campaign, we spoke with four small businesses about how their vans enable them to excel at work while making time for what’s really important to them.

Hunters Lodge

Richard, owner of Hunters Lodge Doggy Daycare, based in Northamptonshire, knows the importance of striking a balance between his canine co-workers and downtime with the family. His Volkswagen Transporter has all the space needed to look after his four-legged friends, as well as making trips to the Derbyshire hills in his spare time.

It’s a big demand caring for 140 dogs [so] it’s important we take time to care for ourselves. Our perfect treat on days off is driving to the Derbyshire hills for walkies.

Jamaica Patty

Theresa is a Jamaican-born entrepreneur and renowned chef who, in 2013, launched Jamaica Patty Co. – a restaurant that provides UK consumers with the authentic flavours of Jamaica.

With the help of her Transporter, Theresa is also able to make time for her other passion - cooking up a storm in the art world as she promotes and exhibits Jamaican artists.

I turn my van’s freezer off and use it for all sorts. We’ve moved homes in the van. And I feel comfortable knowing my art collection is safe in the back.

Black Orchid Florist

Black Orchid Florist owner, Sam, keeps her work-life balance going swimmingly with the help of her Transporter. After a hard day’s work, Sam escapes for long walks across the Welsh hills – occasionally going for a dip in the lagoon.

I have someone who covers for me on Saturdays, [which] means me and my boyfriend can drive to blue lagoons and get our wetsuits on.

Cooke & Charman Kitchen Renovations

Juggling a business, family, and passion for sport, Charlie, owner of Cooke & Charman, uses his Volkswagen Transporter to establish the perfect work-life balance. When he’s not driving to work for a cup of tea in a renovated kitchen, he’s on the tee getting read to hit his drive on the golf course.

Take time for yourself. Take all your holiday leave. My golf clubs go right next to my kitchens in the back of my Transporter.
