The new California is a versatile camper van designed for everyday journeys and memorable adventures. The California is a versatile camper van designed to combine everyday practicality with camping and touring. Its flexible interior, pop-up roof and compact dimensions make it well suited to daily driving as well as longer adventures. It seats four, or up to five in the Beach trim, and sleeps up to four people. An awning is included as standard.

The Grand California is a larger camper van designed for longer trips and more spacious living. It seats up to four people and sleeps between two and four people, depending on the model. It also offers more extensive camping facilities, including a wet room and a fully equipped kitchen.

The new California is available in three trims: Beach, Coast and Ocean. All three come with front swivel seats,  two power-latching sliding doors and sleeping space for up to four people, with each trim offering a different level of camping equipment, comfort and technology.

Beach -  A flexible option for everyday family life and occasional camping. Beach seats up to five people and includes a slide-out cooker, a manual pop-up roof and flexible seating, giving you plenty of versatility for everyday journeys and trips away.

Coast -  Designed for customers looking for a more fully equipped camper van. Coast seats four and adds a fitted kitchen with a sink, hob and cool box, along with multiple power sockets for added convenience when you're away.

Ocean - The premium California trim, Ocean seats four and combines comprehensive camping facilities with additional comfort and technology. Features include an electrically operated pop-up roof, upgraded storage, colour ambient lighting, wood-effect flooring, Climatronic air conditioning, additional sound insulation, a power-operated tailgate, IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The front seats can swivel towards the living area, helping to create a comfortable space for relaxing, dining or spending time together. The individual rear seats can also be moved or removed, allowing you to adapt the interior for passengers, sleeping, luggage or camping equipment.

The California Beach model provides seating for up to five people, depending on the powertrain selected, while Coast and Ocean have four seats.

The new California comes with one awning as standard. With two power sliding side doors and awning rails on both sides, you can purchase an additional awning from the accessories range for the other side of the vehicle. This creates extra living space on both sides of your California, giving you a flexible three-room concept, with the vehicle at its centre.

The new California comes with practical camping equipment to help you make the most of your time away. A black awning on the left-hand side, two camping chairs and a camping table come as standard across all trims. The chairs and table can be cleverly stored within the vehicle tailgate when not in use, helping to keep your living space free.

Kitchen equipment depends on the trim. Beach models features a slide-out, single-flame gas cooker . Coast and Ocean models feature a fully fitted kitchen with a hob, sink and cool box, along with additional storage and power connections.

All California trims come with a parking heater to help keep the interior warm and comfortable when camping in cooler conditions. Ocean takes this a step further with a programmable camping and auxiliary heater with remote control, giving you greater control over the temperature when you’re away.

Each California comes with dedicated leisure power to support the vehicle’s camping equipment. Beach features an auxiliary leisure battery with a low-voltage converter, while Coast and Ocean add two additional LiFePO4 leisure batteries, providing greater capacity for longer stays away.

The New California is available with a choice of two powertrains:a 150 PS 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive and a 245 PS 1.5-litre eHybrid plug-in hybrid with a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox and 4MOTION all-wheel drive. It has a  combined all-electric WLTP range of up to 52 miles.^⁠4

4MOTION is Volkswagen’s all-wheel-drive system. On the new California eHybrid, it distributes power between the front and rear axles to provide added traction and reassurance when conditions become slippery or uneven, such as on wet roads, gravel, snow or muddy campsites.

The new California comes with a range of driver-assistance systems as standard, including Front Assist, Lane Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Dynamic Road Sign Display and Front Cross Traffic Assist. Rear Traffic Alert, front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera provide additional support when manoeuvring.

For additional support, the optional Advanced Assistance Pack adds Area View Camera, Park Assist, proactive passenger protection and Travel Assist with Emergency Assist, traffic-light recognition and assisted lane changing.
