A celebration of old and new: Bus Festival 2023

The Volkswagen Bus Festival made its highly-anticipated return this year, after a 16-year hiatus, with an event bringing together more than 6,000 VW buses and over 60,000 fans from 35 nations, showcasing the Bulli’s international reach and enthusiasm.

Kicking off the event was a convoy of 75 Bullis from across seven generations that drove all the way from the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles factory, greeted by super fans who flocked to the festival in their beloved VW campers and VW converted vans. The convoy concluded at Hanover’s Fairground exhibition centre where the celebration kicked up a gear, which included the European debut of the all-electric ID. Buzz long wheelbase.

The event celebrated decades of Bulli love, with everything from 1960 T1 Type 2s through to the futuristic ID. Buzz found in the festival.

Leading the convoy in a T1 Sambabus (1963), Carsten Intra, CEO of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “The Bulli has always stood for freedom and independence. We want to celebrate this special attitude to life: with lots of great Bullis from seven decades - with very old ones, but also with very new ones like our new all-electric icon, the ID. Buzz.”
