Cosy, family-style camping on the Croatian island of Pag: Camp Kanić

The island of Pag.

Are you a bit of a party animal? Welcome to the island of Pag. The town of Novalja in particular is famous among younger crowds for its parties, clubs and festivals. However, Pag has plenty more to offer: lots of small coastal villages, remote bays and beaches, plus a few campsites with direct access to the beach.

One such site is Camp Kanić–home to almost 70 pitches, which are spread over several terraces. The on-site hillside drops straight down into a private bay. Several of the terraces contain just one camping vehicle or tent, but everything seems to nestle together, connected by stone stairways. Down at the bottom of the hill, there are even a few pitches next to the beach. Shade is provided by 100-year-old olive trees. Each plot comes with a power connection point. The toilets and showers are modern, while the handwashing, washing-up and laundry facilities use drinking-water quality water. The site also has washing machines and somewhere to empty your chemical toilets. Dogs are also welcome here!

Like the sunshine? Awesome! With over 2,500 hours of sunlight each year, Pag is one of the sunniest islands in the Adriatic Sea. Or explore the island’s well-signposted hiking and walking trails. The Novaljsko Polje stretches to the south of Novalja, for instance. In this large field, residents have their own small gardens, which are separated by traditional stone walls. Here, you’ll find olive groves, grape vines and vegetable gardens, which also provide a habitat for a number of animals.
